In southwestern China the Miao tribespeople create batik in a very similar fashion to those in Indonesia. Wax from the sweet gum tree is melted in a pot and designs drawn onto cloth. After indigo baths, the fabric is washed in hot water to remove the wax, leaving behind delicate hand-drawn patterns. This is a vintage piece (about 75 years old), faded down to the color of well loved jeans. Backed in 100% cotton.
