The finest crewels come from Kashmir, a beautiful province in northern India. Situated in a valley that creates an unusally temperate climate for the region, Kashmiris spend most of the year farming. When winter sets in, the popluation turns to creating craft such as silver work, pottery and textiles. Each crewel pattern is made on paper, then traced onto handwoven cotton using a needle punch. Families will spend the next 3-4 months hand embroidering about 30 yards of fabric. Crewel is sophisticated, but retains a natural handcrafted look that blends into any kind of aesthetic. Backed in 100% cotton.
