Antique batik tulis from Java. Using a fine copper tool called a canting, the artist draws the design on both front and back in melted wax. Subsequent dye baths and hot water washes to remove the wax create the designs, each of which is particular to the artist. this most likely comes from Yogyakarta, the capital city of the most powerful and respected Kingdom of Java. Geometric motifs and the little star symbol in the field are common here. Same fabric front and back.
