The making of mudcloth is a time-consuming process. Iron-rich mud is fermented for a year to a rich black which is used to paint symbolic designs on cloth which has been hand woven and soaked in a tea, turning the ivory base yellow. After repeated applications of mud, drying and washing, a natural bleach called "sodani" is applied to the yellow areas to bleach them creating the dynamic black and white patterns. 100% cotton from Mali, backed in ivory Belgian linen.
